The Beatles Are Available On-Line

BBC NEWS | Technology | Beatles and iTunes talk growing

Well this not entirely true. It should read "None of the Beatles' tracks are available to download on Western commercial online music services. (Note I've included the apostrophe after the "s" in Beatles.)

In fact AllOfMP3.com has, probably, all of their albums listed for sale as MP3's.

Time Called On Parking (Mirfield)

The Press March 23, 2007 reported that the Battyeford Primary school fears for the safety of it pupils as the pub next door (under a new landlord) has pulled the plug on parking in its car park.

A bit of a back ground info first.

The parents used the pub's car park free of charge before the change in owner. The new landlord made a request to Kirklees council to resurface the car park (you can see the headlines already), which was turned down because the land is not council owned. The route is also used by buses and inconsiderate parents are causing chaos by parking irresponsibly. To top it off all concerned seem to think its the council's job to sort it out!

Well I'll put my two pence in and here are a few suggestions:

1. The school or PFA can work with the landlord to share the cost of resurfacing the pub's car park. After all its the closest and safest place and we are all concerned about the children's safety.
2. Don't use your cars, walk to school, create a group walk scheme (safety in numbers) or setup a car sharing scheme.
3. Use the side streets available and walk.

Its not rocket science people, let demonstrate to our kids how to act as a community in a positive way.

What Public Transport?

I may be wrong here but isn't the idea of public transport cheap, easy-to-access and reliable? So what we really have in this country is private transport?

Animal Rights Laws?

This is following on from the Metro story about the lad who was caught sexually attacking a dog as reported in a Swedish news paper. I have to say that many jokes came to mind after reading this, but these would not be PC for this country.

Now I have no interest in the hows and whys. What is interesting is the legal side. Sweden, according to the report, has no law against beastiality and so the lad will be invistaged for animal cruelty. Thats fair enough but how are they going to determine if the dog's howling was pleasure or pain?

Tobago?

Fame Metro 16/03/07

Tobago wants to ban Elton John? Surely one man cannot "can open the country to be tempted towards" being gay?
The question I have to put before the "irate telephone callers" would you also be banning
Peter Minshall and former Miss Universe, Wendy Fitzwilliams who both condemned Shawn Wanskie Chi-Chi Man tune which resulted in it being banned from several fetes (parties). Why not ban Crazy for singing Penelope do you remember the line? If not here it is "if you can 't find a woman, take a man"...

Airport Tax, Holiday Tax, Whatever!

MailMetro 14/3/07
James Morton cites over population as the cause of global warming. To a certain extent I do agree, as it does put a strain on global resources. However, it the what drives the population that causes the problem and there are two words that explain the global warming theme.
Greed: The root of all our problems. Its greed, for example, that make train operators hike rail fares above inflation, reduce services and force the population into cars. Which is why it works out cheaper to fly from London to Glasgow.
Selfishness: Its a me, me, me world out there. In the firing line are corporations building brands on exclusion (I opted not to use the word exclusiveness) and put shareholders before customers (talking trains again).
I'm sure many of you out there can point a finger at a few more 'bodies' that contribute to the problems and I invite you to do so...

I Won't Stand Up To Be Put Down Metro 12.03.07

I applaud your bravery J Sinclair of Surrey, but what you did was risky. A noisy MP3 play is one thing. A gang of thieving and destructive thugs is completely different ball game.
Most buses are equipped with CCTV technology and if the bus you were traveling on did have cameras then these thugs would have been capture on tape. In situations like this all passengers need to do is silently observe what was going on and be prepare to step forward to backup the CCTV tape.
If a bus does not have CCTV installed then again just observe what went on and make a complaint to the bus company or police.

I side with the Condutors...this time.

I have to agree with the conductors on yesterday's Metro. I've seen them take abuse, even from passengers who try to travel without a ticket.
If there is someone with headsets disturbing you, don't be shy, politely approach them and ask them to turn the volume down. You won't receive abuse like conductors would.
